About Smashed Seaglass Desgins.
Smashed Seaglass Designs is a small local business that upcycles damaged and unwanted glass into brilliant works of glass art. Passion to design with a colourful medium is what drives the production of custom-order, broken-glass mosaics, which make original and unique gift ideas for every special occasion.
As a land-locked Canadian, there are no ocean beaches nearby where I can comb for sea glass. After years of beachcombing while on vacation, and coming up with very little beach born sea glass, it occurred to me that I could smash bottles and make my own type sea glass; with this success, I call it "Smashed Seaglass".
Smashed Seaglass Designs has two studio locations: St. Albert, Alberta and Peachland, B.C.
Our small business focuses on re-using glass materials to create colour-rich, one-of-a-kind art designs from the broken glass bits. Considerable time is spent searching for coloured glass; none of the glass we use is purchased new from retailers or suppliers. We also accept donations of translucent, non-painted glass. If you would like to recycle your coloured glass, please email smashedseaglass@gmail.com, and we can arrange a pick up at your convenience.
What defines us: Passion & Determination
While traveling last year, I discovered that the resort we stayed at throws away empty liquor bottles; they are not even recycled! This seemed an awful waste of such a terrific source for coloured glass. In short, I packed all the empties, I could fit into my luggage, to be upcycled into a Smashed Seaglass Design. This level of repurposing is miniscule; however, I believe every bit can make a difference, and this is the message I want people understand regarding our efforts to source our glass.
